Is the scan over WAN or LAN?
This is the part that gets me: Error 206: The filename or extension is too long.
How long is the machine name you have entered in? I haven't seen this error before, but it seems like the machine name is the only thing in this case that could be considered "too long".
The scan is over LAN.
I tried multiple desktops - all of our desktop names are 7 characters long. The 2 server names I tried to scan were 9 characters and 11 characters. So, nothing out of the ordinary and certainly nothing over the normal 15 character limit. That was the same line of the log that seemed strange to me. Of course, i've also tried scanning via IP address, and while I don't know if the error shows up for that scan, the end result is the same (never completes).
It might be best to open a case with us via email so we can investigate the full set of logs and escalate the case to development if need be. It would be best if you could go through the following to clear out the logs, and then send the newly created logs to us:
-In Protect go to Tools > Options > Logging and make sure both User Interface and Services are set to “All”. Save.
-Stop all the Shavlik (VMware vCenter Protect) services.
-Delete all the logs from:
-Vista, 2008, & Win7: C:ProgramDataShavlik TechnologiesLogs
-Windows XP & 2003: C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataShavlik TechnologiesLogs
(These may be in a VMware directory rather than Shavlik Technologies for v.8.0 and above.)
-Start the Shavlik (VMware vCenter Protect) services and open Protect.
-Reproduce the error/issue.
-Afterwards please zip and send all the logs in an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
