Upgrade console to Windows server 2012 R2

    TomPijnenburg Rookie

We are preparing for a migration to Windows Server 2012 R2 according to this instruction. Migration Tool User’s Guides

Short question. When we install IVANTI on the new server, we get the following question (see Appendix) . What should we do with this?

          Hi Tom,

If you're restoring a Migration Tool backup, you'll want to have the software create a new database that the backup will then be restored to.  You'll want to make sure you're migrating to the same version of the software, though.  If you're running the same version on the new server as the old, just have the new installation create a new database and restore the Migration Tool backup to that new installation and you should be good to go.

If you're upgrading your console, though, you won't be able to restore a 9.2 backup to a 9.3 database (I'm assuming there's a chance that if you're migrating from an older OS then you're possibly upgrading from an older version of the software too).  If your old console was/is 9.2 and you're planning on moving to 9.3 with the new installation, you'll need to go one of two ways:

          • Back up your current database (just in case)
          • Perform the upgrade to 9.3
          • Run the Migration Tool to back it all up
          • Install 9.3 on the new server and have it create a new database
          • Restore the Migration backup to the new console

          OR

          • Run the Migration Tool on your current console
          • Install 9.2 on the new server and have it create a new database
          • Restore the Migration backup to the new console
          • Perform the upgrade to 9.3

We're available to help with any step of that too, if you need to open a support case.  Let us know if we can help!

          Thanks,

          Brian
