Server 2012 R2 Not Rebooting After Patching

    brett.carl Rookie

      Hello,

Has anyone been having issues with Server 2012 R2 not rebooting after patching completes? We have our servers normally reboot with a 1 minute countdown after they have completed.

      Thanks!

          Hello,

No known issues, what version of Protect are you running?

Do you see anything in the SafeReboot.log at the time of deployment in C:\Windows\ProPatches?

          It would look something like this depending on reboot options:  Run command line: -o 1 -requestor 2 -s 5 -i 1 -m 10 -w 60 -power 4

          Thanks,

          Charles

            Hi Charles,

To clarify, I am running Shavlik Protect 9.2.5119.0.

This isn't happening to all of my 2012 R2 servers. Here is the recent log of a server that did not automatically reboot:

              Hello,

Judging from the log snippet, safereboot.exe is trying to restart the server, at least the command is running.  Do you see anything in the event history on the target machine?  Any calls for restart or the safereboot.exe running?  Any other oddities around the same time?

              Thanks,

              Charles

                Charles,

I just looked through the log file, I see that the command for reboot was sent to the server but the server did not respond to it. A event that keeps appearing a lot is this event:

Error8/27/2016 20:03Service Control Manager7030NoneThe ST Remote Scheduler Service service is marked as an interactive service.  However, the system is configured to not allow interactive services.  This service may not function properly.

Any insight on this that may be leading us to the problem? I can export these logs to Shavlik and open a case if necessary.

                Thanks!

                  Hello,

The error you see shouldn't be causing any issues, the deployment and reboot should run without issue. I think it's best to open a case so Support can take a look at them, they can also jump on a WebEx to poke around if needed.

I would gather, zip and attach the following information to the case:

                  • C:\Windows\ProPatches\SafeReboot.log from the target.
                  • C:\Windows\ProPatches\Logs folder from the target.
                  • A screenshot from your Deployment Template's Post-deploy Reboot tab.

That will definitely be a good start.

Feel free to mention this thread in the case, the escalation portion will be assigned to me.

                  Thanks.

                  Charles

                      Hello,

From what I can see in the case, everything we can see in the logs point to the restart being initiated. It looks like we are going to wait until the next round of deployments to these servers.

                      Thanks,

                      Charles
