Thank you, I was using that page previously but it still had a March 2016 date and I wanted to make sure I was getting the updated XML, etc pages.
The Powershell tool or the links from the page should help update the data to the latest data. You can use this site a reference: https://protect7.shavlik.com/ It will help verify the latest Protect data.
If you are seeing March then you definitely do not have the latest data.
I see the May 18 files now but it wasn't like that and I believe it was just updated today. However, I was using the correct page but mine showed the wrong date. I will contact/ask the forum before waiting this long again.
Thanks for the tips,
Also, I went back and looked at the revisions from 44 to 45 and it hadn't been updated since the March date that I mentioned. For manual patching, will I have to contact someone here to make sure that page is current with the latest XML files.
This will be a weekly event for my system.
"will I have to contact someone here to make sure that page is current with the latest XML files"
I'm not sure I follow, what page are you referring to?
- Okay, So when I asked where the XML files are located you replied with the link directing me to this page:
- That page (xml page) was updated today with "last modified by nick.evans on May 18, 2016 8:30 AM" to revision 45
- Prior to that it had not been updated since the end of March 2016 and the page detailed "Revision 44 By cwinning at 1 month 3 weeks ago"
- So, I am asking with XML files coming out regularly/weekly will that page be continually updated with the latest XML files for those of us that manually update.
Thank you for the clarification. This page: How To: Manually Updating Patch Data Files for Shavlik Protect
The links from the page download the latest data files from the xml.shavlik.com and they are up to date the moment new XML is released. The page itself rarely needs to get updates.
I would actually suggest using the power-shell script also on the page if you can get it running, the manual links work too though. Just make sure you download for the correct Protect version.
We typically release new data xml minimally on Tuesday and Thursday of each so there will be a lot of updates. Sometime we have a release every day depending on what is going on in the patching world.
okay, just so I am tracking. The page may not get a revision update at the top right but the XML files are being updated when a new XML update has been released.
If that is correct, I understand now why the revisions never changed.
The only time a revision occurs is when the meat of the document is changed but the xml's are continuously updated upon the release.
