Deployment stuck at files copied and won.t install

    alexwu Rookie

      Hi,

Just ran this issue last night.

Shavlik Protect Standard 9.2.0 Build 4988

From the patch console we are patching several customer and last night i couldn.t install anything (tested only on a specific customer)

The deploy went fine, files were copied to ProPatches but the Scheduler dindn.t installed anything. The progress is stuck on Executing 0 of X patches.

The issue is manifesting on servers from a specific customer.

Tested (from the same patch console )on a random server from another customer and it seems to work, i can.t test on a bigger scale because i can.t just restart random servers

I have looked in STDeploy and STDeployerCore on a random server that has this issue and there are no generated logs from last night.

      Also checked this without success

It's possible another application installed on the target machine is using 5120. You can open the scheduler log from C:\Windows\ProPatches\Scheduler\Scheduler.log and search for 'Error 10048'.

Last night logs from Scheduler on a server that manifest the isuue:

          Hello,

I spoke with a developer and they believe this issue has been corrected in the latest version of Protect:  http://rs.shavlik.com/downloads/ShavlikProtect_9.2.5046.exe

          Thanks,

          Charles

            Charles,

Looks like several of us have this issue...

I applied 5046, and that didn't fix it for me.

              A bit more info:

My console was configured to use the Microsoft scheduler.

I switched to the Shavlik scheduler, and that worked.

Alex, which scheduler are you using (Tools/Options, Scheduling Tab)

We are having the same issue and we are using Shavlik Scheduler. I'm checking now if the port is opened on the firewall, that may fix the issue.

Ken, I am using Shavlik scheduler.

The basic idea is that on some servers the deployment works fine (server patched from the same console)

Firewall turned off on the server.

It seems like a general issue, I saw more topics regarding this

The same here, from 22 servers 12 works fine and 10 is staying in the scheduled state.

I updated to the 5046 version, requested a maintenance from the customer, will get back here if any news

I had it hang at Scheduled with the MS Scheduled Tasks option, resetting back to Shavlik scheduler rescanning and redeploying got it unstuck.  I don't have the warm fuzzy feeling for this patching cycle.

                            Hello,

Everyone seeing machines stuck at scheduled should first verify if the patches are being installed by re-scanning the target machine after it reboots. If the patches installed but the Tracker failed to update past Scheduled then this document should should help: Deployment Tracker Stays At Executed Or Scheduled Status

If the patches didn't get deployed then the scheduling of the deployment most likely failed.  The possible reasons for this are numerous and troubleshooting the issue on the community wouldn't be the most efficient method of tracking down the root cause.  You should create a case with support and include the following information so we can what is happening in the logs.

                            • A screenshot of the most recent deployment.  FYI: You can clear the Tracker information by deleting Patch Deployment items from Manage > Items.  This will clean up the results, but it will also clear out results for any of the deployment type reports too. It will not affect scan results)
                            • A copy of the C:\Windows\ProPatches folder minus the \Patches sub-folder on the target machine shown in the screenshot.

                            Thank you,

                            Charles

                              Hello -

We are experiencing the same exact issue as well.

On a few of our servers I noticed the timezone was set incorrectly for the location of these (not sure why), but after correcting it and redeploying it worked.

On a subset of others it has not - including one of the servers we use as the shavlik console itself.  I attempted multiple times without success (all seem to be scheduler related), so on a hunch I scheduled the deployment for 2 min out from the current local time - and it deployed without issue!

So far it appears that redeploying with a time a few min out or running the .bat locally from the c:\windows\propatches\staged\**datestamped folder**\InstallPatches-XXXXX.bat will at least get the patch installs run.  All thats in my scheduler log is this:

For customers using the Microsoft Scheduler (set in Tools > Options > Scheduler) you will run into a known defect that was recently discovered.  Jobs fail to schedule or run between 6PM - 12AM.  The work around would be to schedule the job (different code) or to use the Shavlik Scheduler.

                                Thanks,

In this instance we are using the shavlik scheduler, but it is not working and then defaulting over to the MS scheduler... Only to then experience the timing issue you mentioned.
