The error is too generic provide helpful ideas. it could be anything from Database, XML or some other random issue causing what you are seeing. We are going to need logs. I wouldn't suggest posting logs on the community, so creating a case would be your best bet.
Zip all of the logs from the \Logs folders:
a. Windows 7, 8, 2008, 2012 & Vista: C:\ProgramData\LANDesk\Shavlik Protect\Logs
b. Earlier OS’s: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\LANDesk\Shavlik Protect\Logs
Create a case: https://customer.shavlik.com/sso/ssologin.ashx
Attach the logs to the case.

For anyone else watching this thread: Somehow, the user.config file got corrupted and renaming/deleting the file correct the issue.
