You should be able to push Java 8. I would test setting up a software distribution template without using a patch group first to see if Java 8 comes up in the scan result.

Can you tell me how to add a batch file and have it run before the deployment?
The batch file will delete any previous versions of Java before Shavlik deploys the new version.

Getting back to the original question, I just scanned my network (using the instructions provided) and all I am getting back is OS patches missing. Any idea why that would be?

Often software distribution items are classified as applying to the OS as the product. If you look at the columns of the Bulletin Title or Bulletin ID it may give you a better idea of the software distribution items that are considered "missing" and can be deployed.
Are you seeing Java if you look at the results based on those columns?

The issue that I am running into now is that the computer needs to be rebooted between the custom action and the patch install. Is that possible?
