    Shavlik Console Service

    pjohnson Rookie

      Hello,

I have recently began experiencing issues with the Shavlik Console Service stopping unexpectedly which causes the scanning to freeze up. I have included both the errors that I receive each time this happens.

Any help will be greatly appreciated...thanks,

      Paul

          Hi Paul,

We might want to see if we can narrow down what is causing your console service to crash. Is it only when scanning that you see this issue take place?

It would be helpful if you could send the program logs from Protect. Here's the best steps to take when obtaining program logs:

          1.     Please open the Protect GUI and then go to Tools > Options > Logging and change logging to “All” for both user interface and services.

          a.     If you are unable to set logging via the GUI see this doc: http://community.shavlik.com/docs/DOC-22938

          2.     Close the Protect GUI.

          3.     Stop the Shavlik Protect Console Service.

          4.     Delete all the logs from

          a.    Windows 7, 8, 2008, 2012 & Vista: C:\ProgramData\LANDesk\Shavlik Protect\Logs

          b.    Earlier OS’s:  C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\LANDesk\Shavlik Protect\Logs

          5.     Start the console service and open the Protect GUI.

          6.     Attempt to reproduce the issue. Please document steps to reproduce.  Take applicable screenshots depicting the issue.

          7.     Collect the logs from the Logs folder mentioned earlier in step 4 (please zip if possible)

          8.     Zip and attach the logs.

Some possible ideas to start with:

There is a possibility there are files in the Arrivals directories causing this. Please see this document:

          Protect Console Service Crashes Frequently

Also, some of the steps in this document could possibly help:

Cannot Fully Comunicate With The Console Service - Console Service Cannot Be Reached

          Thanks

            Hello,

I have sent the logs and screenshot via e-mail yesterday. I'm hoping someone received it. I would prefer not to put the logs in a public forum considering IP's are displayed.

            Thanks,

              Hey Paul,

Did you hear back on the case you opened? I just wanted to follow up and make sure this got resolved for you.

If you emailed support it most likely won't go through - we now use a support portal at https://support.shavlik.com/.

              Thanks

No I have not had this issue resolved. If you want a zipped file where should I send it?

                Thanks,

                Paul

                  Hi Paul,

Can you please create a case via our support portal at https://support.shavlik.com/?

You can actually add attachments when creating the case on our portal. If you want to reference the case number I can take a look at the logs.

                  Thanks

                    Hello,

If I go to that address that you provided and I log in it brings me back to the community.shavlik.com address which is the same place I originally posted this question. If I hit the 'Ask A Question' link I do not see not see an option for uploading files. Only, images, links, etc. Should I be using the 'upload a file' option instead of 'ask a question'? If that is the case I will need someone to contact me so I can send the zipped files to them and not to a public forum with IP addresses being displayed.

                    Thanks,

                    Paul
