    Offline AV scans

    Rookie

      Hi all,

We often have laptops go out of our office for business purposes. When returned it is our practice to scan the system for virusses using a USB thumb drive before we put it back on our network. We used McAfee for this in the past, however we are now using Shavlik's AV in its place. Is there a way to get the latest definitions loaded to a thumb drive and complete a full AV scan using the Shavlik agent installed on the laptops?

      Thanks

As long as the laptop(s) already have the agent installed you can do the following to copy the threat definitions over:

-Run Help > Refresh Files in the Protect console. The threat definitions download as a background task so give it a few minutes to update.

-Go to the ThreatData folder on your console system. This is where the threat definitions are held. By default for Protect 9 it should be in this location:

          Windows 2003/XP: C:\Documents & Settings\All Users\Application Data\Shavlik Protect\Console\ThreatData

          Windows 7, 8, 2008, & 2012: C:\ProgramData\LANDesk\Shavlik Protect\Console\ThreatData

-You can copy all the files from here to your thumb drive, then over to the ThreatData folder used for the agent to manually update the threat definition files:

          Windows 2003/XP: C:\Documents & Settings\All Users\Application Data\LANDesk\Shavlik Protect\Agent\Threat\ThreatData

          Windows 7, 8, 2008, & 2012: C:\ProgramData\LANDesk\Shavlik Protect\Agent\Threat\ThreatData

          I hope that helps.
