Are you looking for the patches in the C:windowsProPatches|Patches folder?
Yes. I presumed that the patches would appear in there if I only copy them to the client.

Yes they should copy to C:WindowsPropatchesPatches on the target system.
A few more questions that might help figure this out:
Are the patches downloaded to your patch repository on the Protect console system? (Default location: C:ProgramDataShavlik TechnologiesNetChkPatches)
Are you using a distribution server for deploying patches? If so, you need to ensure that all the patch files are synchronized to your distribution server.
Did you receive any errors on the console side during the deployment?
All patches are downloaded to a network directory, and that network directory is the same one that is called up by the Distribution Server.
On the target machine .map .cfg and .bat files are created in the /Install dir. but despite the patch file downloaded and existing on the Distribution Server it doesn't get pushed to the /Patches dir.
I get no error messages in vCenter and the Deployment Tracker shows the State as No Status.
