The purpose of this document is to resolve deployment failures with 'Invalid Host Credentials' when scanning a physical machine or non-hosted VM rather than hosted VM.
When deploying to a physical machine or non-hosted VM, you receive the error 'Invalid host credentials'.
If a machine has ever been scanned as a hosted virtual machine, Ivanti Patch for Windows Servers will recognize that machine as a hosted virtual machine regardless of how the machine is scanned in the future. Because Ivanti Patch for Windows Servers recognizes the machine as a hosted virtual machine, it will require Browse Credentials Issues Caused by Missing Browse Credentials which you will most likely not have if the machine is being scanned as a physical machine or non-hosted VM.
You can see in the below screenshot, that the machine above is recognized as a hosted virtual machine as denoted by the universal three pane virtual sign.
- If you do not have Browse credentials for the machine in question or do not want it recognized as a hosted virtual machine, go to View > Machines, right click the machine in question, and select to delete it.
- Re-scan the machine through its machine group (or add it to a new group and scan).
- The deployment to the machine should now succeed provided that you have set proper administrator credentials for the machine Overview on how Credentials Work in Protect.
- You can test your deployment without installing any patches or rebooting the client machine (ideal for testing during business hours) by right clicking the machine in the scan results or View > Machines and selecting Test Deployment.
