Agent fails to download content data with: Update Failed: Attempt To Download From No Source Error

    The purpose of this article is to troubleshoot the error message you see in the Agent GUI "Update Failed: Attempt to download from no source".




    An agent will install and register with the console successfully. It will have a policy, but all patch tasks are grayed out. When updating the patch core files, the message, "Update Failed: Attempt to download from no source" will show in the Agent GUI screen.




    The agent policy is configured to download from a Distribution Server that is assigned to agent's IP ranges. The agent's IP address is outside of the IP Range assigned to Distribution Server.  "Use vendor as backup source" is usually unchecked too.




    1. Go to Tools > Operations > Distribution Servers.

    2. Under IP Ranges, select New and place the IP range of the affected agent(s).

    NOTE: To find a machine's IP address, open Command Prompt on the target machine and type in: ipconfig /all and look for the IPv4 address.

    3. Go back to the affected agent and update the patch data under Patch > Update Patch Data. The message should now be gone and the patch tasks should be enabled.
