How To: Update a Policy on the Protect Agent

    Purpose

     

    Explanation of different events that wil trigger a change in policy to agent workstations

     

    Description


    Event 1

    Save and Update Agents is selected in the agent policy editor:

    When "Save and Update Agents" is selected, it immediately updates any assigned agent machines that are currently

    online and have "Agent listens for updates on port:" selected.

    Event 2

    Install/Reinstall with Policy is selected in the Agents Menu:

    "Install/Reinstall with Policy" Installs an agent on the selected machine(s). If an agent already exists on a machine, it will reinstall the agent with the selected policy. The installation process will begin immediately. The target machine(s) must be online and able to communicate with the console. If a machine is not online, the installation will fail.

     

    Event 3

    Assign Policy is selected in the Agents Menu:

    If a machine already has an agent installed, is online, and configured to listen for policy updates, "Assign Policy" will immediately assign a different policy to the selected agent machines.

     

    The advantage of Assign Policy over Install / Reinstall with Policy is that it is quicker. This is because it is only updating policy files and not installing an entire agent.

    Event4

    Target Machine succesfully performs agent check-in:

    If an agent machine is online but is not configured to listen for policy updates, the updated policy or policy re-assignment will be pushed out the next time the agent checks in with the console. When agents are not online at the time of update, the new or updated policy assignment will be pushed out the next time the agent checks in with the console or the cloud.
