Troubleshouting Distribution Server Synchronization

Version 4

    Purpose

This document discribe how to troubleshoot a Console which doesn't synchronise files with the Distribution Server.

    Symptoms

No files in the Distribution Server's shared folder.

    • In the Event History the Summary column says "One or more files may have failed" on a Distribution Server sync row.
    • In the log file C:\ProgramData\LANDesk\Shavlik Protect\Logs\ST.ServiceHost.managed.log  there is a line with "Failed to synchronize DS"

    Causes

    • If in the log file ST.ServiceHost.managed.log there is a line "Failed to synchronize DS [...]: System.IO.IOException: The network location cannot be reached."
The Distribution Server is not reachable from the Console.

    • If in the log file ST.ServiceHost.managed.log there is a line "Failed to synchronize DS [...]: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path '[...]' is denied.".
The credentials are wrong to access the Distribution Server.

    Resolutions

    • If the Distribution Server is not reachable from the Console:
      - Check if the address to the server is right in Tools > Operations, tab Distribution Server and double click on the Distribution Server. Check the UNC Path.
      - Check if the folder share is reachable from a Windows Explorer. If not either the host is unreachable or the share is not configured on this path.

    • If the credentials are wrong to access the Distribution Server:
      - Check the credential used in Tools > Operations, tab Distribution Server and double click on the Distribution Server. Check the credential used in the lower panel.
      - Check the credential used in Manage > Credentials, double click on the credential selected in the Distribution Server and check if the User and Password are right.
