Manually Downloading Threat Definitions for Protect

    This article provides steps to manually download the latest threat definitions for Protect's threat protection.  


    This is applicable only if you are running Protect and agents in an environment that has no connection to the Internet. If you have an internet connection the console will download these during the refresh files process, or depending on configuration, agents will automatically download these files as needed.


    Note: The threat definitions for Protect are provided by ThreatTrack (formerly Sunbelt).



    To manually update the threat definitions on the Protect console machine: 


    1. Navigate to

      In this string, CSE39-EN-11552-F.sbr.sgn indicates the latest available thread definition version.
    2. Copy the string that you are given on this Web page and paste it in a browser. 
    3. Navigate to this link.

      You see a prompt to download the latest threat definitions file.
    4. Save this file to the following location on your Protect console machine:

      Version 9.x:
      Windows Vista/2008/Windows 7/8/2012 - C:\ProgramData\LANDesk\Shavlik Protect\Console\ThreatData
      Windows XP/2003 - C:\Documents & Settings\All Users\Application Data\LANDesk\Shavlik Protect\Console\ThreatData

      Version 8.x:
      Windows Vista/2008/Windows 7 – C:\ProgramData\Shavlik Technologies\NetChk\ThreatDataWindows XP/2003 – C:\Documents & Settings\All Users\Application Data\Shavlik Technologies\NetChk\ThreatData
    5. If you are using a distribution server for your agents, ensure to synchronize the distribution server. To synchronize the distribution server:
      In the Protect console, navigate to:
      Version 9.x: Tools > Operations > Distribution Servers
      Version 8.x: Manage > Distribution Servers > Synchronize Tab.
      Synchronize Engines & Definitions.
