Minimum ITScripts engine version required: 126.96.36.199
Modifies the target machine: Yes
Name: Disable Adobe Flash Update
Purpose: Disable automatic updates for Adobe Flash
Script Version: 188.8.131.52
Target Type: Any
This script will disable the auto update feature of Adobe Flash. While many vendors have their own update mechanisms IT Administrators need the ability to centrally manage updates in their environments. This typically leaves auto update notifications popping up on the users machine and often will cause confusion and sometimes issues within a customers environment.
The script begins by determing the OS of the target machine using WMI. Depending on the OS, specifically x64 vs x86 editions, the location of the registry hive for Flash varies. Once the OS is determined the script continues with detection of Flash on the machine verifies if the auto update feature is enabled. This is all done by directly accessing the registry path on the target machine. If present and modification is necessary, the script will access the mms.cfg file for Flash directly on the file system. "AutoUpdateDisable=1" is added to the cfg file.
Possible OpsMon results include:
"Flash updates successfully disabled"
"Flash updates are already disabled"
"Flash is not installed"
"Failed to connect to target system"
